My name is Jason O’Neil.
I am a software engineer at Culture Amp – a company that improves the world of work by helping organizations invest in their people and culture. I work in the Developer Experience team, where we help Culture Amp’s ~300 engineers do their thing in a nicer / more productive / more streamlined way. I live in Perth/Boorloo, Western Australia (Noongar land). I’m a dad to two brilliant boys and in love with Casey.
I use this blog to write about different things, for different audiences, so I’ve split them up into different categories / different blogs:
- Software Engineering Blog: web stuff and work stuff. My background was in Front End development, and then a niche language called Haxe which I wrote a lot about. These days I work in internal developer platforms / developer experience type work, and do as much engineering management and product planning as coding. I don’t write as much here as I used to.
- Personal and Faith: mostly my writing about faith, life, and spirituality, and collecting links to interesting posts, quotes, and podcasts. I find it hard to describe what I believe, but I’m learning that how you live and love is more important than what you believe to be factual… My writing here is a mix of finding my own way through it all, and trying to practice writing in a way that will give courage to others to find their way through it too.
I’ve tried to keep the categories mildly separate, because I figure the sort of person interested in one might not be interested in another. I could be wrong though. If you want to view them all mushed together, there is this page. And I don’t want to be too technical if you’re not up for that, or too spiritual if you don’t want to hear any of that etc etc.
